About Past 181st News

Past 181st News is a local political blog created as part learning experience, part community service, and (if all goes exceptionally well) a meaningful side gig by local community college student Leo Fontneau.

Past 181st News seeks to cover current events and political issues in Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, and Wood Village.

Past 181st News aims to create content that provides accurate information and insightful narratives that help contextualize local issues. To achieve this, I hope to tell stories about how politics affect people’s lives in our community.

Bias and Objectivity

While I would like to do some straight news articles that attempt to minimize biased reporting, some articles may frame issues through left leaning or pro-democracy framings. And while I previously canvased for a local political organization to help elect progressive candidates, I believe that telling local stories can help build community by increasing focus on local issues that don’t necessarily have solidified partisan positions attached to them.

Corrections and Retractions

This site will remain active until 2030 barring a major change of circumstance. Articles will contain notes if corrections are made and if any articles are retracted an article will note the retraction. I previously ran a, since made private, WordPress site on US Politics that developed my interest in blogging as a hobby. I was not serious enough to follow the standards set out above.
